How to Lose 10 Pounds and Keep It Off the Healthy Way

Most people live a busy life, we have a fast paced lifestyle where sometimes we can go half the day without eating, then when we do eat it's typically a drive through where you super-size your order because you feel like you are starving!

Why have we done this to ourselves?!?

Let's step back for a minute and think about this...

When we are born we need a specific nutrition and we need this every 3 hours or so... Why? Well it's really simple, food is energy, our body requires energy to work. When we go long periods of time without food our body will start to conserve fat, holding on to it thinking that it needs to go into survival mode which in turns starts breaking down muscle.

How to give your body the ideal fuel to burn fat instead of muscle:

Eat smaller meals, don't eat a 5 course meal 1-2 times a day. Break down your foods so that you eat within an hour of waking up then every 3-4 hours throughout the day. Don't eat tons of calories just eat a snack (about 200-300 calories) eat your largest amount of food earlier in the day (if not breakfast then do it for lunch). A good way to kickstart this new lifestyle is to record what you are eating and when you are eating it, there are apps and website with free programs that will help with this.

By feeding (or should I say, fueling) your body this way you will have more energy throughout the day and you will typically feel better. You will also see your weight drop and your muscle increase.

As for exercise, you should focus on muscle-building. Muscle burns calories so the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn. When you start getting used to this program you will find that you actually need to eat more than you did before, so add another snack or increase the calories slightly at each snack.

FYI women do not need to be scared of weights. Don't worry about bulking up, you can work on your strength and not look like a body builder.

When doing weight just keep in mind, you want to lift enough so that you can do 10-20 reps and the very last rep is a struggle.

It's also important to get enough protein since that is the primary element for muscle-building. I suggest drinking a high quality protein shake as a post work out recovery drink.

So, to sum this up, don't skip breakfast, don't fast all day then pig out at night-time, be active and most importantly don't quit! Plug into a buddy system and hold each other accountable.
