Whatever You Think You Know About Weight Loss Is Probably Wrong

The term "conventional wisdom" connotes that we believe something to be true simply because majority of people also believe it. However this is a false claim which connects intimately to the problem my clients face when it comes to weight loss.

Every time I meet a new client, my first and greatest challenge is making them realise that what they 'think' they know, the 'conventional wisdom' surrounding my industry, is wrong.

However this is easier said than done! Research in neuroscience proves that human beings naturally react defensively to these sorts of situations. When their beliefs are threatened, they go through a series of steps in their unconscious minds to logic them away.

Every time I speak, I see this happen. I explain that my own journey's success meant breaking almost every weight loss rule in the book, including novel ones such as goal weights, portion control, and exercising alone. Their head are ready to explode with this information until they logic it away and stick to their comfort zone.

Here's the problem, the ideas in your comfort zone don't work; that's why you are here listening to me in the first place. Anyone who seeks my assistance knows that what they think is wrong and not working, yet they continue to cling to those ideas. In fact, the typical client that approaches me has been through all of the following:

  1.  Yo-yo dieting for years, usually more than 10
  2. Fad dieting (pills, shakes, frozen meals, etc.)
  3.  Temporary success, but then they gain the weight back
  4.  Emotional eating
  5. Spending entirely too much money on weight loss programs (see #2 above)
  6. Scepticism regarding my method
  7.  Inability to do what they "know is right"
  8. Believing that losing weight is only about pain and deprivation
  9.  Low self-confidence, particularly as it concerns losing weight

These same people, however, never regret taking that plunge.

Successful weight loss relies on your ability to combat that tendency to stick to what you know and, for once, dismiss 'conventional wisdom'. There is no specific diet or exercise program within my Love Your Weight Loss method. In fact, the number one rule I have is to break the rules.

But that is why I and my clients succeed. We live by three balancing principles. Successful weight loss must work for you:

  -  Practically,
  -  Physically, and
  -  Psychologically

The only person who is a true expert on your weight loss is you. So here's my assignment for you today:

Forget what you already 'know' about successfully losing weight. This has not worked yet and it won't in the future. Your goal is to get rid of fat forever and there is no quick-fix, pill, or over-exercising program that will do that. Instead, it is a whole lifestyle change that challenges you, every day, to break with 'conventional wisdom' and its rules to find and love the real you.
